Somehow, Youtube is a good place. I don’t understand why but it definitely feels that way. Why?

• A lot of official media (from artists, scientific institutions and government).
• A lot of unofficial music (album rips, bootlegs, compilations).
• Interesting channels with great original content on every topic imaginable.
• Comment sections that are quite funny and thoughtful.
• An algorithm not pushing outrage on you, and instead bringing interesting things to your attention.

This is despite:

• You being the product
• It being owned and managed by a huge, self-serving corporation that has a track record of not caring about its users.
  

The contrast to what I’ve experienced on Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram is huge.

Maybe I am just a single, non-representative data point. And maybe there’s definitely something that Youtube is doing better than other platforms, from the perspective of its users.
