Almost all the writing and building I’ve done in public exists either in this blog or on my github profile. Of the two, github has by far the most work.
If I look back, then, the main “publishing house” of my work has been github. This goes beyond just making code available to others. I believe that the documentation going along with that code, and even some experimental projects where the documentation was the most valuable part, find a great home in github.
Github is a publishing platform for certain types of text. This is perhaps unintentional (were the founders really thinking that would be one of their top-three use cases?), but far-reaching. No matter what happens to github in the future, I’m grateful that I could publish most of my best work there, for free, for almost fifteen years.
