I recently listened to the episode on Tim Ferriss’ podcast where Jerry Seinfeld is on. I found it very insightful. Here are my notes on the episode:
- The two things: ethics and boldness.
- Writing session: don’t do anything else.
- “Did you get your work in?”
- Systematize everything.
- Innovation also as what you don’t like.
- “If you’re efficient, you’re doing it the wrong way.”
- “I think the more people you add to the vessel, the faster you’re going to struggle to maintain its progress through the water.”
- 9 year streak: Beatles (also Simpsons)
- Know when your block of focus will end. Defined format and call it a day. An hour is a lot.
- Mind and brain should not be confused. Brain is easily trained.
- With your writing work: switch between being super nurturing with yourself and a hardass the next day when you judge it.
- The ultimate reward is to go out of yourself during performance.
- Cure all: weight training and transcendental meditation.
- Writing is the hardest thing. Know it and remember it.
- Depression is part of the creative package.
- Failures are the experiences I wouldn’t trade away.
- Constitution is essential to doing things in the long term.
- Stats are essential for improving.
- Gamification: use the stupid little machine (the brain) by knowing how much you did and going for a little bit more.
- “A tired dog is a happy dog.”
- Survival is the new success.
- Manage yourself so that you don’t break.
